  • This concept is build up around the idea of playing with doors and keys, as a way to change the ritual we perform approximately fifty times a day.

    Concept:

Both the form and the ergonomic aspects that you find in toys can easily be transferred to everyday tools. This concept has its inspiration from exactly that. If you think of actions like “pull”, “push”, “release” a.s.o., you could say that the ritual of playing with toys is the base of the functions in this door lock/handle system. The concept also has its focus on the individual relationship with keys. It gives examples on how to make the keys more personal appealing and in that effect also more taken care of.

    Background:

One of the most common rituals in our everyday is walking in and out of doors. Despite that we seldom think about the usability of door handles and lock systems in our private homes. The only area it has been any development worth mentioning in this context is in hotels, trains, cars and entrances to shops. In fact there has not been any revolutionary development in this field the last century. This project attempts to rethink the conventional door opening/closing systems and the actions this involves. Some analysis prior to the design phase in this project was necessary. This included a visual analysis of how many actions it takes to get into your door.
